"Premier Alward is taking lessons on politics of control from Prime Minister Stephen Harper," says New Brunswick New Democrat Leader Dominic Cardy.

The provincial government's newest addition to conflict of interest restrictions for the new tourism contract states it would not award contracts to marketing agencies that serve clients who are "engaged in advocacy activities against the government."

"If a company is serving a client that is against shale gas for example, the door to business in New Brunswick is closed," says Cardy.

"Mr. Leonard is a competent minister, but it is no longer appropriate for him to be Minister of Energy," says New Brunswick New Democrat Leader Dominic Cardy.

Mr. Leonard was forced to step away from the shale gas portfolio due to a conflict of interest.

"Finance Minister Higgs seems to have trouble understanding the limits of his job description, after controversies over his comments on Tory election lies and gasoline pricing," says Cardy, "perhaps it is time for Mr. Alward to make a switch."

FREDERICTON - This week’s public dispute over election promises between the Premier and the Finance Minister revealed confusion at the heart of Premier Alward’s government.

Finance Minister Blaine Higgs has argued that election promises, such as the pledge to permanently freeze property assessments for seniors that “would cost the province $173 million over 10 years,” were unrealistic. Premier Alward has previously claimed the entire Tory platform, including 80 spending commitments, would cost just over $140 million.

FREDERICTON – New Brunswick New Democrat Leader Dominic Cardy today congratulated Mayor Ivan Court and the city of Saint John on being named one of the Intelligent Community Forum’s Top 7 Intelligent Communities in the World for 2012.

Saint John succeeded in large part due to its True Growth Strategy, a community wide initiative that connects people from the health, education, energy, tourism, manufacturing, and information and technology sectors to foster ideas and encourage investment.

On behalf of the New Brunswick New Democrats, I would like to extend deepest condolences to the friends and family of former party Treasurer and community activist Jon Oliver.

Recently Jon had received the YMCA Peace Medallion for his years of activism and contributions to the city of Fredericton. Jon helped young people find their own voice, by encouraging them to get politically engaged. He had no problem standing up for what he thought was right.

Jon had many close ties in the community and the party and will be greatly missed.

Sincerely,

MONCTON - On the day the Conservative government admitted they are powerless to discipline Windsor Energy, Windsor President and CEO Khalid Amin phoned New Brunswick New Democrat leader Dominic Cardy and threatened him with legal action if he didn’t stop “defaming” the Calgary oil and gas company.

“Mr. Amin called from Alberta and said, if I didn’t stop criticizing his company, I might expect a call from his lawyer,” said Cardy.

Today, I take pause with all New Brunswickers and Canadians to remember the 14 women who were shot and killed in the Montreal Massacre at École polytechnique.

On December 6th, 1989 a man entered the École polytechnique and shot 28 people, killing 14 women: Annie St-Arneault, Geneviève Bergeron, Hélène Colgan, Nathalie Croteau, Barbara Daigneault, Anne-Marie Edward, Maud Haviernick, Maryse Laganière, Maryse Leclair, Anne-Marie Lemay, Sonia Pelletier, Michèle Richard, Annie Turcotte and Barbara Klucznik-Widajewicz.

FREDERICTON - With growing concerns over the environmental damage and uncertain economic benefits from shale gas, and in the face of an upcoming ‘free vote’ in the Legislature on the future of the industry, the Green Party of New Brunswick, the New Brunswick New Democrats and the People's Alliance of New Brunswick issued a joint call, Tuesday, for the government to put an immediate halt to shale gas development in New Brunswick.

FREDERICTON – Dominic Cardy, leader of New Brunswick’s New Democrats, announced policies he would like to see brought forward in Premier David Alward’s second Speech to the Throne.

“My goal is for the New Democrats to serve as a Constructive Opposition,” says Cardy, “with ideas to help build a better New Brunswick for our children.”

“The first protection we can put in place today, for our children's future, is a legislated conditional ban on shale gas development,” says Cardy. He recommended legislation that would:

FREDERICTON - This week's announcement that the Alward government has signed on to the Harper government's Omnibus Crime Bill is another sign New Brunswick's Conservatives have no plan for our province.

FREDERICTON -  One year after promising to take the politics out of NB Power, and saying "my word is my contract," Premier David Alward's Conservatives have broken a central campaign promise.

On behalf of the province's New Democrats I want to wish all New Brunswickers a happy Labour Day.

Today we remember the accomplishments made by the labour movement over the last century. The eight hour work day, safer working conditions, and maternity leave, just to name a few. Trade unions showed us that by working together we can change the world.

FREDERICTON – “The Alward government’s inability to control its own ministers explains its inability to control government spending,” says New Brunswick New Democrat leader Dominic Cardy.

Earlier this week Finance Minister Blaine Higgs admitted that although he had asked every government department for a monthly financial report, he has not received a single one.

New Brunswick’s New Democrats invite all interested members of the public to join as we celebrate the life of the late Jack Layton.

A gathering to watch the state funeral of Mr. Layton is being held at Renaissance College in Fredericton (located at 811 Charlotte Street) at 12:30 pm Saturday August 26.

All are welcome.

New Brunswick's New Democrats, along with all Canadians, are deeply saddened by the passing of Jack Layton. Let us honour the man who gave a voice to so many Canadians by sharing memories of Jack.

Fill out this form to share your memories in celebration of a life brilliantly lived. We'll pass your thoughts on.

Our Leader, Jack Layton, has died after a long battle with cancer. We knew Jack was sick but, with every other challenge he faced in a long life in public service, we had hoped this was something he would overcome with his usual optimism.

I know I speak for all New Brunswickers in expressing shock and sadness over this morning's awful news. My prayers are with Jack's wife Olivia, his family, and with the team that worked at his side throughout his many political battles.

FREDERICTON – “In 2010, the Liberals and Conservatives accepted political donations from fracking companies exploring for shale gas,” says New Brunswick New Democrat Leader Dominic Cardy.

In 2010 Southwestern Energy donated $1,199.70 to the Liberals, while Corridor Resources Inc donated $3,999.00 to the Liberals and $3,400.00 to the Conservatives.

The New Brunswick New Democrats would like to extend deepest sympathies to Susan Levi-Peters and her family on the passing of Susan's mother, Philomene Levi. Philomene, aged 74, passed away on July 21, 2011 at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont Regional Hospital. Philomene lived a long and fulfilling life, and will be greatly missed by her loving family and the community of Elsipogtog. Susan was a federal candidate for Canada's New Democrat's, and both she and her husband Fabien sit on the NB NDP Provincial Executive.

The New Brunswick New Democrats would like to formally congratulate former party leader Elizabeth Weir on her retirement as President and CEO of Efficiency New Brunswick. Elizabeth led the party from 1988-2005 as the first female leader of the New Brunswick New Democrats. In 1991 Elizabeth was elected to the legislature, and sat as an MLA for Saint John Harbour until 2005. We wish Elizabeth a happy retirement and best of luck for her future adventures!

FREDERICTON – Today, New Brunswick New Democratic Party leader Dominic Cardy spoke with community leaders in front of the legislature to voice concerns over the Conservative governments decision to cut services at the Sexual Health Clinic in Fredericton. The Minister of Health met with experts inside the legislature to discuss the effects these service cuts will have on healthcare in the province.

The New Brunswick New Democratic Party supports the CAW and the striking Air Canada employees. The CAW is fighting to ensure that themselves, and future Air Canada employees receive fair wages and pensions. Leader Dominic Cardy will be visiting the picket line in Saint John to show solidarity for the striking workers.

The New Brunswick New Democratic Party is pleased that the Maeng family will be able to stay in Canada. Families like the Maeng’s help make help make a diverse and wonderful place to live. It is important that Canada continue to welcome immigrants, like the Maeng’s, in order to enrich the Canadian way of life. We hope that Tai-Shik, Hee-Eun, Jung-Joo, and Sung-Joo continue to find success in Canada, and wish them the best of luck with their residency applications.

FREDERICTON – After dodging the issue for more than two years and under pressure from the NDP Premier Alward’s Conservative government has finally introduced a bill to reform MLA benefits, with the Liberals following shamefacedly behind.

On Tuesday Mr. Alward introduced a bill to reduce MLA benefits, following the recommendations of a report commissioned, just days before the 2010 election, by the previous Liberal government.

Congratulations to the New Brunswick Federation of Labour on a successful 50th convention. The excellent turnout at the convention shows that the labour movement is still strong in New Brunswick. Congratulations to Michel Boudreau who was re-elected as President of the Executive Council. Congratulations also go out to Sandy Harding, John Gagnon, and Pauline Doucet-Jones who were elected First Vice President, Second Vice President, and Secretary Treasurer respectively. I wish the new Executive Council members, and the NBFL good luck for the years ahead.

FREDERICTON – New Democrat leader Dominic Cardy today released the following statement in response to Professor Don Desserud's report on Legislative Reform:

The New Democratic Party's priority is to give New Brunswick a fiscally responsible government before the wasteful and reckless Alward government guts health care and education to eliminate the deficit.

FREDERICTON – “Speaker Dale Graham's possible trip to Germany is a slap in the face to New Brunswickers who voted for the Conservatives simply because they wanted a responsible government”, says Leader of the New Brunswick New Democratic Party Dominic Cardy.

Premier David Alward defended Mr. Graham’s decision to take a trip with Conservative MLA Wayne Steeves and Liberal MLA Roland Haché to Germany for a conference on democracy and legislatures.

The New Brunswick NDP offers congratulations to the Saint John Sea Dogs on their win against Mississauga in the Mastercard Memorial Cup.

This is the first time an Atlantic Canadian team has won the national major junior hockey championship. The Sea Dogs beat the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors by a score of 3-1. This is a proud win for Saint John, and New Brunswick. Congratulations to both teams on their hard work over the season.

FREDERICTON – “Dana Clendenning’s illegitimate pension is just another prime example in a long list of patronage appointments from the New Brunswick Conservative and Liberal parties”, says Leader of the New Brunswick New Democratic Party Dominic Cardy.

FREDERICTON – New Brunswick New Democratic Party Leader Dominic Cardy said today that although restructuring is a step in the right direction, the total elimination of Business New Brunswick might be the way to go.

Yesterday Premier David Alward’s government announced that 20 jobs would be cut from the 118 staff of Business New Brunswick. The role of Business New Brunswick is to attract, retain, and help expand business in the province.

The New Brunswick NDP joins our province in expressing our sadness over the passing of Wallace McCain. I extend my very sincere condolences to Margaret McCain and the McCain family in this time of loss.

Wallace McCain represented the very best that New Brunswick entrepreneurs have to offer the world. His legacy to the people of this province is to serve as an example of how New Brunswick can succeed with determination, hard work and integrity. Those who had the opportunity to work with Wallace will know this better than any.

On the occasion of the National Day of Mourning, commemorating workers killed or injured on the job, New Brunswick NDP Leader, Dominic Cardy expressed his condolences to the families of workers injured or killed while working over the last year.

Cardy said “Enduring the death or injury of a loved one is a terrible weight for families to bear, especially if it is was caused by an accident that could have been avoided.

Stephen Beam, the Treasurer and Official Representative of the New Brunswick NDP, and the Chief Electoral Officer for the leadership election, released the following statement:

MONCTON, NB – Members of the NDP met Sunday in Moncton to appoint former candidate Jesse Travis to the position of Interim Leader.  Travis, who ran as a candidate in the most recent election in New Maryland Sunbury West, is pursuing a Law degree at the University of New Brunswick.  Travis was also the federal NDP Candidate in Fredericton for the 2008 election.

“Changes I began must continue”

Duguay, who took the leadership in 2007, led the party to its 2nd best ever election result on September 27th, but failed to win any seats.

SAINT JOHN – The NDP proposal to turn control of property taxes over to municipalities will introduced much-needed accountability into an overly bureaucratic property tax system, Matt Doherty, the NDP candidate for Quispamsis, said today.

“Giving control of property taxes to local communities means that every municipal government will be able to decide for itself what services are needed, and what they can afford,” Mr. Doherty said. “Taking the provincial government out of the property tax business will make it clear to the voter who is responsible for which public services.”

Equalization clawback means Liberal, Conservative tax cuts must lead to service cuts

FREDERICTON – A core campaign promise repeated at least 19 times in the current election campaign by Shawn Graham cannot be kept, and Finance Minister Greg Byrne has admitted it in an interview published this morning in the Telegraph-Journal, NDP Leader Roger Duguay and Finance Critic Tony Myatt said today.

FREDERICTON – NDP Finance Critic, economist and Fredericton-Silverwood candidate Tony Myatt today hand-delivered the attached letter to Conservative Leader David Alward.

Dr. Myatt's letter points out that Mr. Alward's promises will run New Brunswick's deficit up to at least $1.1 billion. Yesterday, Mr. Alward stated that he does not intend to release a full costing of his platform before election day.

SAINT JOHN – Seats in the New Brunswick Legislature that become vacant for any reason must be filled as soon as possible, so people living in those constituencies do not go months without representation, Saint John Harbour NDP candidate Wayne Dryer said today.

TRACADIE-SHEILA – NDP MLAs will be a strong voice in the Legislature for seniors and their families, NDP Leader Roger Duguay said today.

“Most seniors will hardly benefit at all from the income tax cuts David Alward and Shawn Graham are promising,” Mr. Duguay said, “but seniors will bear the brunt of the front-line service cuts that will have to come because of the tax cuts, especially cuts to health care. As a result, the platforms of David Alward and Shawn Graham can only be described as fundamentally anti-senior citizen.”

MONCTON – New Democrat MLAs elected on September 27th will fight for fiscal responsibility because that is what is needed to save front-line services like health care from huge cuts by the David Alward Conservatives and Shawn Graham Liberals, NDP Leader Roger Duguay said upon releasing the party's platform.

TRACADIE-SHEILA – New Democrat MLAs will champion the creation of a truly comprehensive tobacco control startegy for New Brunswick, NDP Leader Roger Duguay announced today.

“Smoking is the number one preventable cause of death in New Brunswick,” Mr. Duguay said, “so reducing smoking is critical to the sustainability of our health care system. New Brunswick is behind most other provinces in terms of taking the steps needed to reduce smoking among children and adults, but NDP MLAs will work to make sure we jump to the head of the pack.”

FREDERICTON – Premier Shawn Graham lied yesterday during his news conference at the University of New Brunswick.

While introducing one in his very long list of election uncosted promises, the Premier suggested that the Caledon Institute had endorsed his plan.

It turns out that this is not true, and the progressive Caledon Institute was not pleased to be associated with the Graham Liberals’ tax-cutting agenda.

FREDERICTON – Improving literacy is a key part of reducing poverty and growing the economy, which is why NDP MLAs in the Legislature will work to cut illiteracy by half over the next four years, NDP Leader Roger Duguay announced today.

“Over half the adults in New Brunswick struggle through life without the reading and writing skills they need to reach their full potential,” Mr. Duguay said. “This situation is not improving. The Conservatives and Liberals have failed the people of New Brunswick by failing to improve literacy.”

Tax cuts proposed by Graham, Alward will inevitably mean cuts to front-line services: Myatt

FREDERICTON – The Conservative and Liberal platforms would each add almost $400 million to New Brunswick's already record-breaking defict, threatening our health care and education systems with huge cuts, NDP Finance Critic, Fredericton-Silverwood candidate and economist Tony Myatt said today.

FREDERICTON – New Democrats in the Legislature would help students get summer work experience by eliminating the mandatory summer income contribution for student loan recipients, said Jesse Travis, University of New Brunswick law student and New Democrat candidate for New Maryland-Sunbury West.

“Summer work experience is an invaluable part of a university education,” Mr. Travis said at a media conference by the University of New Brunswick, flanked by fellow New Democrat candidates Jason Purdy (Fredericton-Lincoln) and Dana Brown (Fredericton-Nashwaaksis).

Out-of-control election promises pushing New Brunswick over debt cliff: Duguay

New Brunswick NDP YouTube Channel

“Alward, Graham addicted to using tax dollars to subsidize businesses they like,” says Fredericton Silverwood candidate Dr. Tony Myatt

FREDERICTON – Government should stop cash handouts to a small number of businesses and replace Business New Brunswick handouts with a job creation tax credit for all businesses, UNB economist and NDP Finance Critic Tony Myatt announced today.

TRACADIE-SHEILA – MLAs elected under a party banner should serve under that banner, NDP Leader Roger Duguay said today.

“A big problem with New Brunswick politics is MLAs who do not keep their word with the people who elect them,” Mr. Duguay said. “I cannot think of a more fundamental way for an MLA to break their word to their constituents than to run for election as a member of one party, then cross the floor to another party. This has happened too often, but the NDP has a plan to stop it.”

Progress toward equality has stalled with no NDP voice in Legislature

BATHURST – A New Democrat voice in the Legislature will introduce and fight for the passage of pay equity legislation, NDP Leader Roger Duguay said today.

“Progress on pay equity in New Brunswick has stopped in the past five years with no New Democrats in the Legislature to keep the pressure on,” Mr. Duguay said during a campaign stop in Bathurst.

Alward's promise to consult not good enough, victims of Lord government deserve clarity

TRACADIE-SHEILA – A New Democrat voice in the legislature will push to triple the $2,500 cap on compensation for victims of so-called “minor injuries” in automobile accidents.

MONCTON – David Alward and Shawn Graham are not respecting the people of New Brunswick by refusing to discuss the cuts they will have to make to pay for their election promises, NDP Leader Roger Duguay said today.

“It is impossible for New Brunswick to pay for the Conservative and Liberal election promises without big cuts to front-line services like health care and education,” Mr. Duguay said. “Mr. Alward and Mr. Graham are disrespecting the people of New Brunswick by refusing to give details about what they will cut, until after the election.”

Controlling unbudgeted spending would save $210 million

FREDERICTON -- Susan Levi-Peters, the first woman Chief of the Elsipogtog First Nation, will run as a New Democrat against Premier Shawn Graham in the riding of Kent.

"I want a New Democrat voice in the New Brunswick Legislature because I am tired of the lies and broken promises of the Shawn Graham government," Ms. Levi-Peters said, "not only to my people but also to all middle class families."

Economist quoted by Alward Conservatives chooses NDP, says Alward not fiscally responsible

FREDERICTON – University of New Brunswick economist Tony Myatt is running for the New Democrats in Fredericton-Silverwood in the upcoming provincial election, New Democrat Leader Roger Duguay announced today.

Myatt is a leading voice sounding the alarm bells about New Brunswick's debt and deficit crisis caused by the Shawn Graham Liberals' mismanagement.

Passing NDP 20/50 bill will be a condition of NDP support if there is a minority government

FREDERICTON – The NDP will push for cuts to MLA pay and pensions if an NDP voice is elected to the New Brunswick Legislature on September 27th, NDP Leader Roger Duguay announced today.

Published July 19, 2010, Brett Bundale, Telegraph-Journal, Page A1

Roger Duguay is knocking on doors in his hometown of Tracadie-Sheila with a message: The New Democratic Party of New Brunswick will rein in the runaway spending of successive Liberal and Progressive Conservative governments.

It's an attempt to shake off the NDP's long-held reputation as a party bent on big spending and big government.

While the provincial NDP has never been able to earn or dispel that reputation, the NDP leader is working to convince voters his party is a fiscally responsible alternative

New Democrats believe everyone should have an equal chance to do well in life.

“Middle class New Brunswickers shouldn’t pay for Alward and Graham’s leadership failures” - Duguay

April 27, 2010

FREDERICTON – Weeks after the discovery of a secret pension deal for provincial MLAs, NDP leader Roger Duguay condemned another secret slush fund designed for retiring Conservative and Liberal MLAs. The $42,500 payouts have already been made to one Liberal and one Conservative MLA appointed to the Senate – a well paid job-for-life with its own generous pension plan. Five additional MLAs – three Liberals and two Conservatives – have already decided they cannot run for Shawn Graham or David Alward in the September 2010 election and are now eligible for the lump-sum payment. More could follow, but the bill to date is already $297,500.

“Alward is repeating Liberal mistakes - it shows how much we need fresh leadership”, says NDP Leader Duguay

April 21, 2010

FREDERICTON- Today’s energy announcement by David Alward shows his Conservatives are not ready to govern, and that all they have to offer are the same failed processes used by the Graham Liberals.

"Our province needs sensible, pragmatic government"

March 30, 2010

BATHURST- Members of the NDP gathered in Bathurst on Sunday to nominate their candidate for the provincial election this fall. Sebastian Duke, an activist with the Boilermakers union, won the nomination by acclamation.

“The Liberal and Conservative MLAs from our region have been silent on the NB Power deal. We need an NDP MLA in Bathurst that will stand with the people and fight for our community,” said Duke during his acceptance speech.

March 24, 2010

FREDERICTON- NDP Leader Roger Duguay is calling on PC Leader David Alward to come clean on his party’s plans for NB Power now that the deal to sell its assets to Hydro-Quebec is off the table.

“The coalition against the sale of NB Power should be commended for its tenacity and hard work. I am so proud of the work of our members and all the New Brunswickers who opposed this deal,” said Duguay.

FREDERICTON - The Corporate Research Associates' (CRA) Atlantic Quarterly survey shows that the New Brunswick New Democratic Party (NDP) is the only party with momentum heading into the 2010 election campaign.

The New Democrats are at 18%, up four percentage points, at the expense of David Alward’s Conservatives, who dropped four points, to 42%. The Liberals are stalled at 36%.

The first Women’s Day was 102 years ago, a celebration by the Socialist Party of America. It became a tradition after a New York factory fire, which killed 146 workers, most of them women.

This day of commemoration began in memory of workers who died because they were exploited, whose working conditions were unfair and unsafe. Even though women were increasingly treated as equals under the law, the reality of their economic and social position remained a reality of bias, of exclusion.

At its heart, the message of Women’s Day is summed up by Margot Wallstrom, Swedish Social Democrat and European Commissioner, who said “It’s just a matter of believing that the right man, in the right place, can be a woman.”

Simple.

No complicated philosophy. Just the belief that women and men are equal.

So why, 102 years later, in New Brunswick, are women paid 14.1 percent less than men, and why is this gap growing?

January 18, 2010

FREDERICTON - New Brunswick New Democratic Party leader Roger Duguay,
reacting to Social Development Minister Kelly Lamrock's statement that he
"could not have voted for the deal [to sell NB Power] as it's been presented
up to now", today warned that the Liberal government was preparing new
gift-wrap for the same old sell-off of NB Power to Hydro Quebec.

"Look at what Minister Lamrock says: it's all there. He says he 'could not
have voted for the deal as it's been presented up to now'. But the
Premier has been saying for weeks that he will change the deal, so the
deal Minister Lamrock is talking about is already dead," said Duguay.
"What matters is whether Minister Lamrock will vote for the new deal Premier
Graham is about to table. On that, he's silent. That is the deal that
matters, the one the government is patching together, in secret, guided by

January 12, 2010

FREDERICTON- NDP Leader Roger Duguay set out his party's key condition for support should the provincial election this September result in a minority government. At a press conference flanked by the leaders of the two other opposition parties, Duguay indicated that NDP support will only go to a party that will agree to tear up the deal to sell NBPower to Hydro Quebec.

January 7, 2010

BATHURST - Roger Duguay is enjoying a break.Provincial New Democratic Party Leader Roger Duguay speaks to reporters in this file photo. Duguay, who has been campaigning since last summer for the provincial election scheduled for Sept. 27 thinks the NDP chances with the electorate have been improved by the Liberals’ proposed sale of NB Power to Hydro-Québec.

After attending 340 events and travelling an estimated 120,000 kilometres since taking over as head of New Brunswick's New Democratic Party, Duguay says he took time to reboot over the holidays before beginning the long campaign stretch leading up to the fall 2010 election.

The former Catholic priest is hoping, for the first time in four tries, to win a seat in the provincial legislature.

"Every time I run, I get stronger, and my chances of winning increase," Duguay said in an interview this week.

October 29, 2009

FREDERICTON- New Democratic Party Leader Roger Duguay repeated his firm opposition to the sale of NB Power to Hydro Quebec, following today's announcement by Premier Shawn Graham and Quebec Premier Jean Charest.

"Keep the power in New Brunswick and New Brunswick in charge of NB Power. The NDP stands with New Brunswickers: We say no to this deal."

October 28, 2009

Roger Duguay: “Keep the power in New Brunswick, and New Brunswick in charge of NB Power”

FREDERICTON - New Brunswick New Democratic Party leader Roger Duguay said only the NDP stands 100% against the sale of NB Power to Hydro Quebec. Speaking to newly-elected party officers in Fredericton, Duguay said:

“We are tired of secret deals cooked up by Shawn Graham and his friends. We need to keep the power in New Brunswick, and New Brunswick’s in charge of NB Power.”

September 3, 2009

An opinion poll released today by Corporate Research Associates reveals the New Brunswick NDP has risen to 22% support amongst voters, an historic high.  Roger Duguay, Leader of the NB NDP, enjoys a personal approval rating that has risen to 16%.  While the recent victory of Darrell Dexter’s NDP in Nova Scotia certainly plays a part, Duguay feels the Party’s recent organizing drives are responsible this success.

Duguay feels the NDP’s new level of organization in New Brunswick makes the Party more visible and responsive to New Brunswickers.

March 17, 2009

The Plan for Lower Taxes in New Brunswick released in yesterday’s budget raises concerns with the New Brunswick New Democratic Party. The NB NDP feels that a two-tier tax structure of 9% and 12%, as well as a low corporate tax rate of 8%, being implemented by the Shawn Graham Liberals is irresponsible and unfair to New Brunswick taxpayers.

This proposal is especially unfair in light of the sacrifices being forced upon the public service in the form of a wage freeze and job losses.  "The Liberal wage freeze and cuts to the public service will not only be felt by the thousands of individuals directly affected, but also by their families, and the communities in which they live and contribute." says NDP Leader Roger Duguay.  "It is simply not fair to ask concessions from hard-working New Brunswickers in order for the wealthiest individuals and corporations to pay less than their current share."

November 17, 2008

Fredericton, NB- On Tuesday during the opening of the Legislative Assembly in Fredericton, New Democratic Party Leader Roger Duguay stood in solidarity with hundreds of workers from across the province who were voicing their dissent over Shawn Graham’s privatization agenda.  In Duguay’s speech in front of the Legislature, he strongly critiqued the current Liberal government’s plans for privatization in New Brunswick.  “The people of New Brunswick say no to privatization, the NDP says no to privatization, and I stand in solidarity with the people of New Brunswick!” stated Duguay.
