CRA poll shows NDP gains at Tories' expense. “Middle class New Brunswick families are ready for a real alternative,” says NB NDP leader Roger Duguay

FREDERICTON - The Corporate Research Associates' (CRA) Atlantic Quarterly survey shows that the New Brunswick New Democratic Party (NDP) is the only party with momentum heading into the 2010 election campaign.

The New Democrats are at 18%, up four percentage points, at the expense of David Alward’s Conservatives, who dropped four points, to 42%. The Liberals are stalled at 36%.

“David Alward’s popularity is dropping while the NDP gains. It’s clear New Brunswickers don’t trust the Alward Conservatives. Despite a Liberal government that flip-flops more than a fish on a wharf, David Alward is losing support. The NDP are reaching out to Conservatives, to Liberals, and to undecided voters, and offering a sensible, pragmatic alternative: this poll shows our message is starting to get through,” said NDP Campaign Director, Mr. Dominic Cardy.

The Conservatives have refused to make their position on the sale of NB Power public until and unless they win the September 27 provincial election. This reverses their previous promise to release their policy on NB Power during the election.

“The NDP is clear on the sale of NB Power: we will only support a government that agrees to tear up the deal. The Alward Conservatives refuse to commit to reversing the deal and the public are catching on, they know they’re being sold a bill of goods. The only way to stop the sale of NB Power is to vote NDP,” said NDP leader Roger Duguay, who continued,

“Only the NDP is standing up to the Liberals. We are reaching out to middle class New Brunswick families, listening to their voices, and putting together the best and biggest campaign this party has ever run. We are ready for whatever level of responsibility the people of New Brunswick choose to give us,” said NDP leader Duguay, who has taken his party to its highest ever levels of recorded support since winning the party leadership in 2007.
