The NDP is the only fiscally responsible choice for New Brunswick

New Democrats believe everyone should have an equal chance to do well in life. Government has a role by providing good schools and education, health care, safe communities, decent roads and good infrastructure.

NDP founder Tommy Douglas knew government could not provide public services while drowning in debt. Elected Premier of Saskatchewan in 1944, he spent his first term getting the Liberal debt under control.

We saw this recently in Greece: a government with too much debt cannot borrow any more money and falls off a debt cliff. That means painful cuts to public services like health care and education, and giving up our financial control to big banks. That is not the NDP way.

The Graham Liberals and Alward Conservatives are pushing New Brunswick off that debt cliff. The debt grows by almost $1000 per man, woman and child in New Brunswick every year. International lenders have already cut our provincial credit rating.

Alward and Graham are not being honest. They run around the province in a pre-election frenzy, making reckless promises of more spending and more tax cuts.

They will not keep their spending promises. If they win the election they will suddenly say there is no more money, and then they will slash services for struggling middle class families to justify more tax cuts that benefit their wealthiest supporters.

Only the NDP offers a fiscally responsible alternative. We will not make spending promises without a clear plan to pay for them. If there is a minority government, we will only support a government that reduces the deficit without cuts to front-line services.

One more reason to elect a strong NDP voice to the Legislature on September 27th.
