Former Dieppe City Councillor Hélène (Olscamp) Boudreau accepted the nomination for the New Brunswick NDP in Memramcook-Tantramar Monday night at the Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre. Boudreau, a 29 year veteran Registered Nurse, Clinical Research Associate and community activist believes leadership and experience will be important qualities voters will be looking for this fall.
“I know that New Brunswickers are searching for leadership. My values, my experience, and my understanding of the many challenges facing New Brunswickers have brought me to seek the NDP nomination for the Memramcook-Tantramar riding in the upcoming provincial election,” Boudreau said. “I believe that I can provide leadership that can meet the challenges ahead in the areas of health, education, socio-economic development, and the environment.”
NDP Fredericton North candidate Brian Duplessis served as keynote speaker for the nomination meeting. Duplessis said he is thrilled to have Boudreau join the NDP team of candidates.
“Hélène will make an excellent representative for the people of Memramcook-Tantramar,” Duplessis said. “Her experience on the front lines of the health care system and as a Dieppe City Councillor will serve her well as the next MLA for this riding.”
Boudreau currently works for PAREXEL International as a Clinical Research Associate. She has spent much of her career in clinical research, starting at the Dr. Leon-Richard Oncology Centre in Moncton. Prior to this, she worked in the Extra-Mural Program at the Blanche-Bourgeois unit for four and a half years as a community nurse and a long term care assessor, which led her eventually to employment in a residential care home for dementia and Alzheimer residents.
A firm believer that women should have a voice in decision making in their community, Hélène entered politics in 2008 as a municipal councillor in the City of Dieppe. Her deepening understanding of local and provincial issues gave her the empowerment to seek the mayor’s position in 2012, which resulted in a strong 2nd place finish.
Hélène has been married to Paul Boudreau for 28 years and has two adult children and two grandsons. She and Paul are currently purchasing a home in Sackville.
