NDP Sets Key Condition for Support in Minority: Scrap the Sale of NB Power
January 12, 2010
FREDERICTON- NDP Leader Roger Duguay set out his party's key condition for support should the provincial election this September result in a minority government. At a press conference flanked by the leaders of the two other opposition parties, Duguay indicated that NDP support will only go to a party that will agree to tear up the deal to sell NBPower to Hydro Quebec.
“We will only support a government that will rip up this deal and adopt a New Brunswick plan to fix NB Power. The Conservatives say they do not like this deal but won’t commit to tearing it up. The NDP is clear, if you want to stop the sale of NB Power, send New Democrats to the Legislature. Then, no matter who is elected: Liberal, Conservative, or NDP, this deal will be scrapped,” said Mr. Duguay.
Recent opinion polls indicate that the next provincial election could result in a minority government.
“Mr. Alward’s government broke up NBPower so that it could be sold off; now Mr. Graham has found a buyer. The only difference between the Conservatives and the Liberals is that the Liberals found a buyer where the Conservatives failed. Only the NDP will scrap this deal and save NBPower. Give me your vote, and the NDP will tear up this deal,” concluded Duguay.
